CARING FOR SILVIE STRAND-BY-STRAND HAIR EXTENSIONS
- Do not shampoo for two days after your keratin bond application
- When shampooing, always wash your hair with your head back, not tilted forward. Never dry with a scrubbing action, instead wrap a towel to absorb the excess moisture.
- When allowing your hair to “air-dry” Silvie Hair Extensions recommends that the bonds be dried with a blow dryer to avoid moisture build-up.
- If swimming in apply conditioner mids to ends, and wear your hair in 2 loose pigtail braids.
- Saunas and exercise weaken the bonds due to the wet environment always remember to dry the bonds to prevent premature bond loss.
- Hard water can strip natural hair and extension hair of color and nutrients, because of this we recommend using a shower head filter.
- Never sleep with the extensions wet, this can cause extreme matting; always use a silk pillowcase. Sleep in a low side braid or ponytail.
- Brush morning & night thoroughly to prevent tangling - your extensions are secure in the head & more problems can come from not brushing enough than brushing often. Just be gentle. Only use a brush designed for extensions working your way from the bottom up.
- Silvie Hair Extensions recommends that you return to your stylist approximately two weeks after your application. This follow-up allows your stylist to look at your extensions to ensure that your extension application result is performing as expected.
CARING FOR SILVIE WEFT HAIR EXTENSIONS
Washing and Conditioning your Extensions
- Don’t wash the hair every day, as it will cause the extensions to dry out.
- Before shampooing hair extensions, brush thoroughly to remove teasing or tangles.
- When shampooing, use a sulfate-free, paraben-free, color-safe shampoo. Begin at the scalp and gently massage the shampoo in a zig-zag formation. Then section the hair and rinse thoroughly. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Follow with a sulfate-free, color-safe conditioner. Apply the conditioner from mid-lengths to ends and leave it on for 2-3 minutes before rinsing. Avoid applying conditioner to the scalp as it could loosen the application.
- Never turn the head upside down to wash or dry; this might cause the extensions to form dreadlocks.
Drying your Extensions
- Allow your hair to air dry as much as possible before using a blow dryer
- Gently dry the base of the extensions first with a towel, then move to the ends.
- The hair should be 80 percent dry before using a detangling brush.
- When brushing, apply a leave-in conditioner or serum to eliminate tangles.
- Begin drying the ends and work upward. Be sure the attachment points are dried thoroughly.
Brushing your Extensions
- Only use brushes designed for hair extension care, made of boar or nylon bristles.
- Brush hair a few times a day to prevent tangling.
- Brush gently, starting at the ends and working up to the roots.
- Work section by section, lifting the extensions and brushing in-between the wefts.
- Avoid excessive pulling or aggressive brushing to maintain extension quality.
Styling your Extensions
- Avoid wearing high ponytails for the first two weeks after installation.
- It is safe to use thermal tools, including blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons, on extensions.
- Always apply a heat-protective product before using hot tools.
Sleeping with you Extensions
- Sleep with the hair in a low ponytail or braid to prevent tangling during the night.
- Do not go to bed with wet hair, as this can cause the extensions to tangle.
- Use a silk pillowcase every night.
Coloring your Extensions
- In a word, DON'T! Extensions should only be colored by your stylist, who understands the appropriate products and techniques necessary for hair color services.
Oiling your Extensions
- Oil the mid-lengths and ends of the hair at least once a day to prevent dryness.
- Avoid applying oil to the roots.
Swimming with your Extensions
- Before diving in, wet hair with water and apply a light application of conditioner on the ends.
- Gather hair into a loose braid or loose high bun.
- Avoid getting sunscreen on the extensions as many sunscreen formulas can cause discoloration. When possible, use mineral-based sunscreens rather than chemical-based sunscreens. The latter may discolor the hair.
- Salt water and chlorine can also strip hair color so try not to get the hair too wet when swimming.
- After swimming, rinse hair thoroughly with fresh water and apply a leave-in conditioner.
